HALOS - "RESIDENTS WILL FINALLY GET VOICE"12.00.00pm GMT Fri 20th Nov 2009
Newquay's Prospective MP, Steve Gilbert, has welcomed the news that people in Newquay are to get a say in whether they want a lap-dancing club on one of the town's main streets. Following representations he and others have made, Cornwall Council has asked Halos, the lap-dance club on Bank Street, to submit a new planning application. Steve Gilbert said, "When Halos became a lap-dancing club they should have applied for a 'change of use' and it should have been debated by the Council's planning committee. That didn't happen and people didn't get the chance to put their view to the Council. Now there will be an opportunity for people to have their say about whether they want a lap-dancing club on one of Newquay's main streets." Steve Gilbert joined with local residents to raise concerns that Halos was operating outside of the current planning permission for the site. Cornwall Council served a 'Planning Contravention Notice' which has revealed that the operations on the site appear to be outside of the current permissions and has therefore asked the owners to submit a new application. Halos have until December 16th to submit and application to the Council's planning committee.
