The new MP for St Austell & Newquay, Steve Gilbert, yesterday gave his first speech in the House of Commons.

In his speech, Steve said it will be 'the privilege of my life' to represent the community that he is 'proud to call home'. Steve went onto talk about the diverse nature of the St Austell & Newquay constituency and the unique problems that affect local people.

Speaking after his speech, Steve Gilbert said:

"The first 60 seconds were very nerve wracking but I soon got the feel for the place. I hope that throughout my time as your MP, I will be able to speak up for Cornwall in Westminster and continue to raise the issues that matter for local people."
